Climbling. Leaves simple, spiral. Ocreae slightly oblique. Inflorescence with a partial racemose, spicate paniculate, indeterminate, bisexual. Flowers in an ocreola, tepal less united at base, 5-merous, in two series, eglandular. Stamens 8, filaments base connate as staminal column, anthers dorsifixed. Ovary with 3 styles.
Three to six species in Mexico and Central America. One species in Thailand.

Perianth of 5 brightly coloured segments; outer 2 or 3 cordate or ovate, inner oblong. Stamens 8. Styles 3. Fruit a 3-angled achene, loosely surrounded by the enlarged papery perianth.

Bejucos herbáceos o leñosos, que trepan mediante los ejes de las inflorescencias modificados en zarcillos. Hojas alternas, simples, enteras; pecíolos alargados; estípulas connatas alrededor del tallo para formar un estructura tubular conocida como ócrea. Flores bisexuales, actinomorfas, producidas en fascículos ocreados a lo largo de racimos o panículas axilares o terminales; perianto de 5 tépalos pétaloides, libres; estambres 8, los filamentos connatos en la base formando un tubo, las anteras dehiscentes longitudinalmente; ovario súpero, trilocular, unilocular, con un solo óvulo, los estilos 3, libres, los estigmas peltados. Fruto un aquenio con una sola semilla, cubierto por los tépalos acrescentes. Género neotropical con 8 especies.

Antigonon is a genus of flowering plants in the buckwheat family, Polygonaceae. It contains three species[2] native to the Americas.[3]
They are vines producing branching stems with tendrils from a tuberous root system. The leaves are alternately arranged. Flowers are borne in raceme-like clusters, often toward the ends of the stems. The bell-shaped flowers have five tepals usually in shades of pink or purplish, and sometimes yellowish or white. The stamens are joined at the bases, forming a tube.[3]
